Connect an AI phone agent to a Panasonic PBX
Panasonic has stopped making business phone systems, but many KX-NS and KX-NSX systems are still running. A SIP trunk adds the Tibinet AI phone agent as an extra destination. If you would rather replace the PBX, you can also move your telephony to Tibinet entirely.

Panasonic PBXs at a glance
At the end of 2020 Panasonic announced that it was withdrawing from business communication systems worldwide, including the KX-NS and KX-NSX PBXs. New hardware is no longer supplied. Many systems are still in use and support SIP trunks. For how the connection works in general, see connecting an AI phone agent to your phone system.
How the connection works
- A SIP trunk from the Panasonic to Tibinet, using registration (the most common option) or an IP-based connection.
- The PBX needs a SIP trunk licence (channel).
- Your PBX calls the agent on a short number in your dial plan. The agent transfers back only to numbers on your PBX that you agree with us in advance.
What your installer does
Set up the SIP trunk
Create a SIP trunk using the details we send you.
Codec and DTMF
Enable G.711 A-law and set DTMF to RFC 4733.
Create the routes
One route for the agent numbers (85XX and 88XXXXX) and an inbound route for the transfer numbers.
Open the firewall
Allow SIP and RTP (ports 10000 to 20000) to and from our address.
All ports, codecs and settings are listed on the technical details page.
Transferring calls
- Cold transfer: by default through a second call to your PBX. This always works.
- Warm transfer: your colleague first hears a short summary and presses 1 to take the call or 2 to decline. If nobody answers, the caller stays with the agent.
- REFER: only if the PBX accepts it from this trunk. If it fails, the platform falls back to the second call.
- The summary is also sent as a SIP header. Whether a handset displays it depends on your PBX and handsets; we do not promise it.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, as long as the PBX can set up a SIP trunk and has a channel free.
Not for the connection. Bear in mind, though, that Panasonic no longer supplies new hardware or firmware.
Yes, by porting your numbers to hosted telephony from Tibinet.
With hosted telephony, SIP handsets that register with a username and password will work. Panasonic digital and analogue system handsets do not work without the PBX.
