Connecting an AI phone agent to Grandstream UCM

The Grandstream UCM series, such as the UCM6300, is an IP PBX for small and medium-sized businesses, built on Asterisk. You connect Tibinet's AI agent through a VoIP trunk. Your IVR sends callers to the agent, and the agent transfers them back to your extensions and queues.

Connecting an AI phone agent to Grandstream UCM

Grandstream UCM and the AI agent

On a UCM, external SIP services are connected with a VoIP trunk. The agent then becomes one more destination, just like an extension, ring group or queue. Your handsets and numbers stay as they are.

How the integration works

  • VoIP trunk to the SIP address we give you, either as a register trunk (username and password) or as a peer trunk (IP authentication).
  • Outbound route for 85XX and 88XXXXX. Every agent has a fixed seven-digit number starting with 88 and, on request, a short number such as 8500.
  • Inbound route for the transfer numbers you agree with us.

Every setting on our side is listed on the technical details page.

What your administrator does

  1. Create a VoIP trunk

Create a VoIP trunk using the details we send you.

  2. Create routes

Add an outbound route for the agent numbers and an inbound route for the transfer numbers.

  3. Set codecs and DTMF

Choose G.711 A-law and set DTMF to RFC 2833/4733.

  4. Check NAT

If the UCM sits behind a router, check the NAT settings so the UCM advertises its public address.

  5. Make the agent a destination

Point an IVR option or a queue overflow to the agent's short number.

  6. Test

We check the connection, you call the agent's short number, and on request we call a transfer number with a test message.

Transferring to your team

  • Cold: our platform calls your UCM with a second call.
  • REFER (optional): we ask the UCM to complete the transfer itself. If that fails, we fall back to the second call automatically.
  • Warm: your colleague first hears a short summary, then presses 1 to take the call or 2 to decline it.

If nobody answers or the line is busy, the caller stays with the agent. The agent only calls numbers you have agreed with us in advance, and no call ever goes out to the public phone network over the trunk.
