3CX AI receptionist: connecting Tibinet's AI agent to 3CX

3CX is a software phone system you host yourself or have hosted by 3CX. Tibinet's AI agent joins it through a generic SIP trunk, as an extra destination in your dial plan. When the agent cannot help a caller, it transfers them to an extension, group or queue on your 3CX.

3CX AI receptionist: connecting Tibinet's AI agent to 3CX

3CX and the AI agent

3CX runs on-premises, in your own cloud or with 3CX itself. External SIP services are connected through a SIP trunk. Your handsets, numbers and digital receptionist stay exactly as they are. The agent is simply one more destination, just like an extension or a queue.

How the integration works

  • Generic SIP trunk to the SIP address we give you. Registration with a username and password is the obvious choice. If your 3CX has a fixed public IP address, IP authentication works too.
  • Outbound rule for numbers starting with 85 or 88. Every agent has a fixed seven-digit number starting with 88 and, on request, a short number that fits your dial plan, such as 8500.
  • Inbound rule for the transfer numbers you agree with us, for example 200 for reception.

What your administrator does

  1. Add a SIP trunk

Add a trunk of the generic type, using the details we send you.

  2. Create an outbound rule

Route the numbers 85XX and 88XXXXX to this trunk.

  3. Create an inbound rule

Add an inbound rule (DID) for the transfer numbers, pointing to the right extension, group or queue.

  4. Set codecs and DTMF

Put G.711 A-law at the top of the codec list and set DTMF to RFC 2833/4733.

  5. Make the agent a destination

If you like, point an option in the digital receptionist or a queue overflow to the agent's short number.

  6. Test

We check the connection, you call the agent's short number, and on request we call a transfer number with a test message.

Transferring to your team

  • Cold: our platform calls your 3CX with a second call. This always works.
  • REFER (optional): we ask 3CX to complete the transfer itself. If 3CX does not accept it, we fall back to the second call automatically.
  • Warm: your colleague first hears a short summary, then presses 1 to take the call or 2 to decline it.

If nobody answers or the line is busy, the caller stays with the agent. The agent only calls numbers you have agreed with us in advance. No call ever goes out to the public phone network over this trunk.

Points to watch

Using a different software PBX? See connecting the AI agent to FreePBX and Asterisk, to Yeastar or to Grandstream UCM. All platforms are listed in the integrations overview.
