We measure it ourselves, with no third parties
We do not use Google Analytics or any external measurement package. The measurement is built by us and the data sits on our own servers in Europe. Nothing about your visit goes to an advertising network or an American platform.
Without consent
If you decline, we place no cookie and build no visitor profile. We only count how often a page was viewed and for how long, without those counts being linked to you or to an earlier visit. You are not recognised on a return visit. We distinguish elapsed visit time from time when the page is visible; time in a hidden tab does not count as visible time.
With consent
If you consent, we place a cookie holding a random number, valid for one year. It lets us see which pages you view, for how long, how far you scroll, where you click and how your mouse moves across the page. We use those last two to see which parts of a page get attention and which do not.
What we never record
Never what you type into a form. Never the content of a page, so never accidentally what was on your screen either. And never your IP address: it is hashed into a string that changes daily and only serves to limit abuse. After a day that string can no longer be traced back to an address.
How long we keep it
Individual events are kept for three months, movements for the heatmaps for one month. After that only daily totals remain, in which no individual visitor can be recognised.
Changing your choice
You can change your choice at the bottom of any page. Declining is just as easy as accepting and costs you no feature of the site. If your browser has Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control switched on, we measure nothing at all, not even anonymously.
A direct explanation
Am I being tracked personally?
Not without consent: there is then no cookie and no recognition between visits. With consent we follow your behaviour within our own site, tied to a random number rather than to your name or email address. If you place an order or leave your details, we do link that visit to the request, so we know which channel brought you to us.
Can I have my data deleted?
Yes. Get in touch and we will erase what has been recorded about your visits. Because we do not attach a name or email address to the visitor number unless you left something yourself, we will ask you to help us find the visit in that case.
Why build this yourselves?
Because then we know exactly what is recorded and where it sits. With an external package, data about your visit moves to another company, often outside Europe, and you cannot hold that promise.
