Connecting the AI phone agent to KPN telephony
Do you make calls with KPN EEN? Then you forward calls to the Tibinet AI phone agent. If you have your own phone system with a KPN SIP trunk, you connect the agent to that phone system. Callers who need a person are transferred back by the agent.

About KPN
KPN is a Dutch telecoms provider. It supplies business cloud telephony through KPN EEN, aimed at small and medium-sized businesses. For businesses with their own phone system, KPN supplies a SIP trunk.
- Type of provider
- Cloud telephony (KPN EEN) and a SIP trunk for your own phone system
- Integration method
- Forwarding from KPN EEN, or through your own phone system
- Transfers
- Cold via forwarding; cold, REFER or warm through your own phone system
- Agent’s number
- New, or an existing number via number porting
How the integration works
- KPN EEN: set up a forward to one of the agent’s phone numbers. KPN EEN supports forwarding always, on no answer, on busy and outside opening hours.
- KPN SIP trunk with your own phone system: connect the agent to your phone system with a second trunk to Tibinet. Find the page for your phone system in the overview of integrations.
With call forwarding, the agent gets its own phone number from Tibinet, either a new number or an existing one via number porting. There is more on the page about forwarding calls to the AI phone agent.
With your own phone system, the agent is added as an extra destination through a second SIP trunk to Tibinet. There is always some work on your phone system: creating a trunk, allowing our address and setting up routes. The settings are listed in the technical details for your IT team.
| Call forwarding | Through your own phone system | |
|---|---|---|
| What you set up | A forward to the agent’s number | A second SIP trunk to Tibinet, with routes in both directions |
| Transfers | Cold, to a phone number | Cold, optionally via REFER, or warm with a summary |
| Call minutes with your provider | Yes, on most plans | No forwarding minutes |
| Caller’s number | Depends on your provider | Can be passed to the agent |
What you or your administrator does
A number for the agent
The agent gets its own phone number from Tibinet. This is a new number, or an existing number via number porting.
Set up the forward
In KPN EEN, set up a forward to the agent’s number: always, on no answer, on busy or outside opening hours.
Agree a transfer number
Tell us the phone number the agent may transfer callers to, for example your reception’s direct number.
Test
Call your own number and choose the route to the agent. Check whether the caller’s number comes through.
With your own phone system
Create a second SIP trunk to the SIP address we give you. Allow our address in the firewall, add a route to the agent numbers and a route back for the transfer numbers. We supply the details and test with you.
Transferring to your staff
With call forwarding, the agent makes a cold transfer to a phone number you choose. The caller goes straight to that number.
Through your own phone system there are more options. The agent only calls numbers on your phone system that you have agreed with us in advance.
- Cold: our platform calls your phone system with a second call. If nobody answers or the line is busy, the caller goes back to the agent.
- REFER (optional): your phone system transfers the call itself. If your phone system refuses or the transfer fails, the platform falls back to the second call.
- Warm: your colleague first hears a short summary and presses 1 to take the call or 2 to decline. No key press, no answer or busy counts as declining; the caller then stays with the agent.
No phone system of your own? There is an alternative
You can also take your business telephony entirely from Tibinet, with the AI agent as a destination in your IVR menu, in a queue or outside opening hours. Your current numbers can move with you via number porting. Read more about hosted telephony from Tibinet.

Frequently asked questions
No. Your numbers and subscription stay with KPN.
Yes. Forward calls to the agent’s number outside opening hours.
On most plans it does.
The KPN trunk connects your phone system to the telephone network. You connect the agent to that phone system, or use forwarding.
That depends on your provider. Test it. If it does not come through, the agent sees the number the call was forwarded from.
Yes. With call forwarding, that is a cold transfer to a phone number you choose. Through your own phone system with a SIP trunk it can also be warm: your colleague first hears a summary and presses 1 or 2 to take the call or not.
